Fedex Predicts Record Shipments Over Holiday Season

ASI recently reported that Fedex is predicting a 12% increase in shipments from last year’s holiday season and will transport over 317 million packages before Christmas eve. The company will hire over 55,000 seasonal workers to keep up with daily volumes that are likely to be double the average rate.

Fedex CEO Frederick W. Smith attributed the increase in volume to changes in buying patterns and the continued growth of e-commerce. The National Retail Federation reported that e-commerce sales this November and December will increase by up to 8% compared to last year, totaling $105 billion.

Due to the rise in e-commerce, Fedex’s average ground volume has increased by over 20% since 2012. Other package carriers are experiencing similiar growth rates.
