Former NASA Engineer Creates Animated T-Shirt Company

When Mark Rober planned his Halloween costume, the jet propulsion engineer at NASA also launched an innovation that might be the next big thing in apparel. Rober took two iPads strapped to his chest and back and used the camera features to make it appear that he had a hole through his body.

After a video of his costume went viral, Rober and his friends launched a business called Digital Dudz to sell a cheaper version of his costume. Customers purchase a special t-shirt which holds their mobile device in it and use a smartphone app to project an animation that appears on the shirt. The product is now being carried in Party City stores and was recently featured on the Today show.

While Digital Dudz are still fairly low-tech, many believe they have the potential to become the next trend in wearable technology. If properly developed, this technology could transform promotional apparel and give marketers an eye catching way to promote products.
