Pantone Announces Two Colors of The Year For 2016

Since 2000, the Pantone Color Institute has made a tradition of announcing their Color of the Year, partnering with large brands nationwide to market the hues for the upcoming calendar year.  For the first time since the tradition began, the firm has announced two colors as their top picks for 2016.

Rose Quartz and Serenity, a light pink and blue combination, were chosen for the calming properties amidst a chaotic and technology driven world. Many speculated that the dual pink and blue hues were also a nod to recent cultural events surrounding gender identity and equality.

“These colors were seen together almost like two sides of a coin — they were showing up in many different places together,” Pantone Senior Vice President Ron Potesky said.

Pantone worked with advertising agency Sub Rosa to create images of a model wearing a shawl in the two hues as part of their announcement. They also commissioned street artists to create murals in the colors in New York, Los Angeles, and Miami.
